Korean Ethos of Glocality
through the Buddhist Prism

The Center for the Expansion of Academics on Korea at Dongguk University aims to promote the globality and specificity of Korean studies to the world through universal Buddhism.
Our institute will make 50 online video lectures with the theme of Korean Buddhism over the next 5 years(2021-2026).
This project will not only make people around the world interested in Korean Buddhism, but also give us an opportunity to examine the research results of Korean Buddhism.

  • This project consists of 2 step, 5 year’s curriculum.
  • Step 1(1st-3rd year) - Glocal Korean Buddhism: Locality and Globality
  • Step 2(4th-5th year) - Post-glocality: Now and Future in Korean Buddhism

1 History and Historical Figures Understanding of the History and Historical figures of Korean Buddhism

3 Thoughts and Tradition Understanding of Thoughts and Tradition of Korean Buddhism
2 Post-glocality : Now and Future in Korean Buddhism
4 Society and Everyday Life Modern Society and Everyday Life, Present Interest and Use of Buddhism
5 The World and the Future Buddhist Value Creation for the Future of post-glocal world
  • 10 courses are produced each year, 1 course consists of 7~10 lectures. Each lecture is produced as an on-line video lecture.
  • Each Lecture is available on K-MOOC platform of the National Institute For Lifelong Education.
  • Korean language research book(The Spectrum of Korean Buddhism) and English research book(Korean Magical Medicine_Buddhist Healing Talismans in Chosŏn Korea) containing the curriculum and contents of on-line lectures will be published.

The Subject of 50 Lectures

  • Assignment of lectures by level
    Beginner's course for undergraduates(3 Lectures) / Intermediate course for graduate students(4 Lectures) / Advanced courses for researchers and experts(3 Lectures)
  • The lecture consists of 'general use' and 'local use' according to the topic and content.
    General use: universal lectures covering the world
    Local use: Specific local lectures for North America and Europe
