    o Course Overview:

    This course examines the role, status, and significance of women in Korean Buddhism through literature, history, and personalities. In order to understand the context of Korean Buddhism, we will also study the views of women in early Indian Buddhist texts, women's activities in Chinese history, and the current status of Buddhist women around the world.

     

    o Learning Objectives:

    To take a fresh look at the history and doctrine of Buddhism through the lens of women. To examine the gender-equal values which are part of the foundational ideas of Buddhism. To gain a richer and more complete understanding of Buddhism by learning about the history of Buddhism in light of women's lives and accounts.
