o Overview of Lectures:
Modern period in Korean history was a time of rapid change in which traditional systems collapsed and a new civilization was introduced. Like all other religions, Buddhism, which was a traditional Korean religion, has tried to adjust to historical changes while maintaining its own identity in a new period. In this lecture series, I will introduce Korean Buddhist intellectuals, who were active in modern period, and explore the modern period of Korea more multi-dimensionally through their lives.
o Learning Goals:
- We explore Korean modern history through the lives of eleven Buddhists.
- We look at diverse choices through the lives of Buddhist intellectuals who lived in Korea in the modern period.
- We will be able to discuss the lives and thoughts of major figures in Korean modern Buddhism.
